An agreement to establish the center is planned to be signed on August 19 in Issyk-Kul region.
According to Academician Kubanychbek Zhumaliev, there are currently nine similar centers operating worldwide that use big data for scientific research. The center in Bishkek will be the tenth and will operate within the framework of a UNESCO program.
The project was discussed at a meeting between NAS President Bekmamat Dzhenbaev and a delegation from the Chinese Academy of Sciences led by Academician Guo Huadong.
The new center is expected to use digital technologies and big data to monitor land and environmental conditions, as well as study areas susceptible to drought and other natural and climatic changes.
Bekmamat Dzhenbaev noted that the creation of the center is particularly important given climate change and the spread of droughts in Central Asia.
«The drought has affected not only our country but all of Central Asia. We express our gratitude for conducting such important scientific work,» he said.
