The amendments are aimed at simplifying the process of obtaining an international passport for children under 16.

According to the law, a passport for a child under 16 in Kyrgyzstan can now be issued based on an application from one of the parents or a legal guardian.

However, the consent of both parents is still required to obtain a passport for a child abroad. If one parent objects, the document can only be issued by court order.

Furthermore, the law provides for the possibility of extending the validity of expired children’s passports during a state of emergency or martial law. This decision will be made by the Cabinet of Ministers.
