The program’s main performer was the Kyrgyz ethno-rock ensemble Urkor. The group presented a combination of folk instruments—komuz, kyl kiyak, ooz komuz, sybyzgy, and dobulbas—with modern arrangements and a rock sound.
This joint project was a continuation of the cultural exchange that followed the ensemble’s tour of Japan, Osaka and Tokyo, and their participation in EXPO-2025. It was then that the idea arose to hold a concert featuring Japanese artists in Bishkek.
One of the highlights of the evening was a performance by taiko performers, a traditional Japanese drumming art. The concert featured musicians from the Nippon Daiko and Ooedo Daiko groups, as well as Uehara Baigen and Leo Tagadawa.
Taiko performers stood out not only for their powerful sound but also for their synchronized presentation, expressive movements, and strong stage presence. In Japanese culture, taiko is considered a distinct performing art in which rhythm, energy, and visual impact play a major role.
The program featured joint performances by Kyrgyz and Japanese musicians. The stage presented an unusual combination of Japanese drums and Kyrgyz national instruments, along with performances by young ethno-performers and komuz players.
The evening was complemented by a kimono show, presented for the first time in Kyrgyzstan as part of the Silk Road Sounds project. The performers introduced the audience to the traditions of wearing Japanese national dress and the characteristics of different types of kimono.
The concert lasted approximately two hours and became one of the notable ethnocultural events of this spring in Bishkek.
