The parties paid special attention to the results of the first meeting of the Intergovernmental Council of the two countries, which took place in February 2026. Officials called this event a crucial step in creating a new format for trade and economic cooperation.

Erlist Akunbekov and Sulaimon Ziezoda emphasized the need for systematic work by government agencies to implement all agreements reached and agreed to introduce a mechanism for regular mutual reporting.

To increase bilateral trade, the parties have begun developing a joint roadmap, identifying specific implementers and strict deadlines for project implementation.

The two heads of state set a clear goal for their governments: to increase mutual trade to $500 million by 2030. Kyrgyzstan has significant potential for increasing exports. Bishkek is ready to increase exports of textiles, coal, glass, plastic products, and certain food products. The opening of mutual trading houses in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan will provide an additional incentive for business.

In addition to trade, Erlist Akunbekov and Sulaimon Ziezoda discussed in detail partnerships in the areas of ecology and infrastructure. The parties agreed to exchange experience in developing renewable energy sources and coordinate efforts to ensure effective cooperation in the region’s key water and energy sector.

According to the National Statistical Committee of the Kyrgyz Republic, mutual trade between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan in 2025 amounted to $33.4 million. The agency noted a sharp increase in trade volumes—almost threefold, or 187.9 percent, compared to 2024. Kyrgyzstan’s exports reached $24.5 million, while Tajik imports were valued at $9 million.

According to official data, the volume of brown coal (lignite) exports from Kyrgyzstan to Tajikistan from January to March 2026 amounted to 31,703.5 tons.
