Total gross revenues of insurance companies during the reporting period reached 2,768.4 billion soms, while expenditures were higher at 2,819.2 billion soms.
A total of 34 insurance organizations with 17 branches are officially registered in the republic. Of these, 14 companies posted profits totaling 58.1 million soms, while 12 organizations recorded net losses amounting to 108.9 million soms. Another eight companies reported a break-even result.
In the first three months of 2026, insurers signed 735,290 contracts, with the total insured amount exceeding 852,156 billion soms.
The market continues to be driven primarily by voluntary insurance.
In this segment, 531,111 contracts were concluded, generating insurance premiums of 1,978.4 billion soms. The largest collections came from property insurance — 1,048.8 billion soms, including 252.9 million soms from personal property insurance.
Under voluntary insurance contracts, companies paid clients 480.7 million soms. Of this amount, 198.1 million soms were paid for property-related risks and 117.1 million soms for motor insurance claims.
In the compulsory insurance sector, 204,279 contracts for 548.9 million soms were signed during the first quarter.
Total payouts for insured events in the compulsory segment amounted to 208.8 million soms. Nearly all compensation payments were related to civil liability contracts, where payouts reached 189.4 million soms.
Overall, from January to March 2026, Kyrgyzstan officially registered 14,897 insurance claims under voluntary contracts and 2,163 claims under compulsory insurance obligations.
The key conclusion of the report is the systemic unprofitability of Kyrgyzstan’s insurance market, which posted losses of 50.8 million soms. Despite active promotion of mandatory motor third-party liability insurance and housing insurance, the sector remains unprofitable.
In compulsory insurance, payouts of 208.8 million soms already account for about 38 percent of collected premiums totaling 548.9 million soms. Combined with high operating costs, this is putting pressure on insurers’ capital. Significant losses recorded by 12 companies outweighed the modest profits of profitable market players.
Problems in Kyrgyzstan’s insurance market are often linked to a low insurance culture and the high cost of reinsuring risks abroad. Current losses may push market participants to revise tariff policies or call on regulators to optimize fund distribution mechanisms in the compulsory insurance segment.
