«The Foreign Minister advocated strengthening the central coordinating role of the UN, based on the principles of international law, sovereign equality of states, mutual respect, and non-interference in internal affairs. Special attention was given to the relevance of reforming the UN Security Council by expanding the representation of countries from Asia, Africa, and Latin America,» the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.

According to the minister, it is necessary to strengthen mechanisms for collective decision-making and ensure the «genuine inclusiveness of global processes.»

Jeenbek Kulubaev also announced Kyrgyzstan’s candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for the 2027–2028 term.

«Kyrgyzstan views participation in the Security Council as an opportunity to make a practical contribution to strengthening multilateral cooperation, preventing conflicts, and enhancing joint international efforts to address traditional and emerging threats, including terrorism, transnational crime, cyber threats, climate change, and epidemics. The minister emphasized the need to protect the interests of small, developing, mountainous, and landlocked states,» the statement says.

The Group of Friends on Global Governance is an informal UN cooperation mechanism for exchanging views, coordinating approaches, and developing joint positions on reforming and improving global governance. Its work is based on the principles of sovereign equality, international law, multilateralism, support for the central role of the UN, and practical international cooperation.
