Recent research conducted by Japanese specialist Akihito Otsuka revealed remarkable details. It was discovered that the current trees growing on the grounds of Tamga sanatorium are part of a batch of 200 sakura trees brought by Japanese benefactors in 2011 and 2017 as a tribute to history. In the 1940s, Japanese internees helped construct the sanatorium’s main buildings.

Today, approximately 55 trees remain. Despite the harsh climate and weakened condition, the cherry blossoms bloomed again this spring, demonstrating an incredible will to live and a deep connection to this land.

In June, Akihito Otsuka will arrive from Japan to professionally prune, treat the soil, and fertilize the trees.

«These flowers are not just plants. They are the souls of people and a symbol of our long-standing friendship. We want a true cherry blossom spring to return to Tamga,» the organizers note.
