According to it, the project aims to address one of the region’s most pressing problems. It will cover 32 villages in Kara-Suu and Uzgen districts, where approximately 158,000 people are still forced to use outdated water supply systems.
It is noted that Osh region is one of the most densely populated regions of the country. However, access to quality drinking water remains limited there, at approximately 65 percent.
To address this issue, the fund will provide a loan of $60 million within the total project budget of $66.7 million. Kyrgyzstan will provide co-financing of $6.7 million.
The project includes a large-scale infrastructure upgrade: the construction and renovation of over 890 kilometers of water supply and distribution networks, the drilling of 33 artesian wells, the construction of 54 reservoirs, and the installation of 11 pumping stations. All of this will provide residents with reliable and safe drinking water.
The project also includes improved sanitation: 95 toilets in schools, kindergartens, and first aid stations will be renovated.
The project is scheduled for five years from the date the agreement comes into force. The document is scheduled to be signed by the end of June 2026.
