According to him, there was no precipitation in April-May 2025, but good humidity has been observed this year. If the weather in June-July is favorable, the yield will increase.
«Shortages of certain items in the country are usually seasonal, especially in winter for vegetable crops. This year, the forecast is favorable. However, at the moment, there are certain risks associated with rising prices for fuel and lubricants. Prices are unlikely to be low. But a good yield will allow farmers to make a profit,» Uran Chekirbaev said.
He added that the republic has experienced an oversupply of potatoes in recent years.
«Due to overproduction, farmers may face problems selling their produce. There have been potato shortages in other countries over the past three years. Therefore, prices are currently holding steady, but with a downward trend. In 2024-2025, the price reached almost 60 soms per kilogram, and in 2026, it will remain at 40-45 soms. If the fall harvest is good, we expect prices to reach around 30-40 soms. However, if high humidity persists, the potatoes may be damaged by disease. The tubers may rot, and their shelf life will be reduced.
Questions also arise regarding apricots, especially in Issyk-Kul region—they ripen very quickly, and the goods need to be sold within a week. However, there is a shortage of trade and logistics centers and processing facilities. They are a perishable product. Farmers may risk losing income. In this regard, more emphasis should be placed on processing,» the official advised.
