«This significant event, which is of historical significance both for the Kyrgyz Republic and for all of Central Asia, is recognition of Kyrgyzstan’s high international standing and the result of the creative and constructive foreign policy pursued under the leadership of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic. Kazakhstan has consistently supported Kyrgyzstan’s candidacy and is ready to continue to provide comprehensive support in fulfilling this important mission. I wish Kyrgyzstan successful and fruitful work on the UN Security Council,» the telegram reads.

For the first time in its history, Kyrgyzstan was elected a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. The republic will serve on one of the international organization’s principal organs in 2027–2028.

The vote took place on June 3 at the UN General Assembly in New York. A total of 142 states voted in favor of Kyrgyzstan’s candidacy. The Philippines, competing for a seat on the Security Council, received 49 votes.
