MP Dastan Bekeshev raised the issue. He recalled that the blocking of TikTok was carried out without a court order and, in his opinion, is illegal. The deputy noted that the platform is popular among entrepreneurs and is used to promote business, and therefore aked when the social media will be reopened to users.

Alisher Erbaev responded that the basis for the restriction was the legal provision on the protection of children from information harmful to their health, physical, intellectual, mental, spiritual, and moral development.

«The law contains several provisions restricting information prohibited or undesirable for distribution among children. We see that content that could negatively impact children is being distributed through TikTok, so a temporary restriction has been introduced,» he said.

According to the deputy head of the SCNS, access to the platform will be restored after the acquisition and launch of specialized equipment that will allow blocking specific prohibited content.

When we are able to block only unwanted content, TikTok will be fully reopened. Alisher Erbaev

When we are able to block only unwanted content, TikTok will be fully reopened.

In turn, Dastan Bekeshev noted that restricting individual materials is the right approach, but blocking the entire platform is ineffective, since similar content is also distributed through other social media.

«If we follow that logic, then we’ll have to shut down the entire internet,» he said.

TikTok was officially blocked in Kyrgyzstan in April 2024. In May of this year, the Creative Industries Park, the Creative Industries Association, and representatives of the digital community launched a public initiative in support of unblocking TikTok and appealed to President Sadyr Japarov to reconsider the current restrictions.
