The epicenter of the earthquake was off the coast of Mindanao Island, near General Santos. Following the main shock, numerous aftershocks were recorded, one of which reached a magnitude of 6.7.

According to local authorities, most of the fatalities were caused by building collapses, falling debris, and landslides. More than 200 people were injured. In some areas, homes, schools, roads, and infrastructure were damaged.

Following the earthquake, tsunami warnings were issued for coastal regions of the Philippines and neighboring countries. The warnings were later lifted.

The Philippines’ President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ordered the suspension of classes in affected areas and instructed additional emergency forces to assist in disaster response efforts. Rescue teams continue clearing debris and searching for possible victims.
