The opening ceremony was attended by Talantbek Tolobekov, director of the Cinematography Department under the Ministry of Culture, Information and Youth Policy of Kyrgyzstan; Mongolian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Kyrgyzstan Demchig Tegshjargal; and Orgilmaa Bat-Erdene, head of the International Relations and Cooperation Department of the Mongolian National Film Council.
In their speeches, the participants emphasized the importance of expanding cultural ties between Kyrgyzstan and Mongolia and highlighted the special role of cinema as an effective tool for strengthening mutual understanding and friendship between peoples.
Film screenings are taking place in the main hall of the Ala-Too cinema. Mongolian Film Week offers Kyrgyz audience an opportunity to become acquainted with contemporary Mongolian cinema reflecting national culture, traditions, and current social issues.
The program includes films by prominent Mongolian directors that have received recognition at international film festivals.
Horizon — directed by Batdelger Byambasuren. Opening film of the Mongolian Film Week.
Silent City Driver — directed by Sengedorj Janchivdorj. The film received several awards for Best Director and Best Actor.
City of Wind — directed by Lkhagvadulam Purev-Ochir. A drama about the life of a young shaman. The film was presented in the Horizons section of the Venice Film Festival and was selected by Mongolia as its submission for the Academy Awards.
Days of Mongolian Cinema are being held from June 9 to 12, 2026. Admission to all screenings is free.
