According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the signing of the treaty marked an important stage in the development of Kyrgyzstan — Italy cooperation in criminal matters and completed the formation of a bilateral legal framework between the two countries in the main areas of international cooperation in criminal matters.

The treaty establishes a legal basis for the provision of mutual legal assistance in criminal matters, including the service of procedural documents, the collection of evidence, the conduct of certain procedural actions, the identification and seizure of criminal assets, as well as other forms of cooperation envisaged by international practice.

On October 4, 2024, during the official visit of President Sadyr Japarov to Italy, the two countries signed treaties on extradition and the transfer of sentenced persons.

Implementation of the provisions of the signed treaty will further strengthen cooperation between the competent authorities of the two countries in the fight against transnational organized crime, corruption, cybercrime, money laundering, and other criminal activities.
