Central Asian countries will face the impact of rising global prices for energy resources and commodities, Senior Country Analyst of the EDB Country Analysis Center Aigul Berdigulova stated during an online presentation of the macroeconomic forecast for 2026–2028.
She noted that higher oil and fertilizer prices will lead to increased costs in the agriculture and transport sectors.
According to her, Kyrgyzstan’s authorities are responding promptly to emerging inflation risks. The National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic raised its discount rate to 12 percent in February, and the interbank interest rate was increased in early June. The EDB believes these measures will support savings activity among the population and help maintain financial system stability.
Aigul Berdigulova also noted the measures taken by the Cabinet of Ministers to curb price increases. In early May, price regulation mechanisms for fuel and lubricants were introduced, financing and subsidizing supplies to the country continue.
