According to him, a commission was immediately established after the letter became public, which conducted an internal investigation.

«We established the entire process of the letter, from its registration to its submission to the committee. I will say right away — this letter was expected in the Zhogorku Kenesh. One of the employees was asked to hold the letter without registration for some time after it was brought in. Later, instruction was made to register it in the name of the Speaker of Parliament, which was done. The letter was delivered to former Speaker Shakiev. However, he, apparently to be cautious, instructed that it be taken to his deputy, and it was then forwarded to the committee. All witnesses — parliamentary staff — testified in court and confirmed these facts. Those who claim otherwise are not telling the truth. All commission materials were handed over to the Ministry of Internal Affairs,» Mamataliev said.

He also added that many MPs wanted to speak in defense of Elvira Surabaldieva after court debates on the same day, but refrained to avoid being seen as exerting pressure on the court.

«At the same time, I want to note that Elvira Surabaldieva could have not attended court hearings, but she chose to go and set an example. I think she has something to say. Unlike some deputies, she is, perhaps this sounds rough, a ‘man’ in character,» the Speaker added.

He said the purpose of the letter was to speed up the presidential election process. He also claimed that so-called prepared experts had been testing public sentiment in advance.

«Thanks to a quick and adequate response to the appearance of the letter, the situation was stabilized. Otherwise, the country could have faced division and risks of a split in power,» Marlen Mamataliev said.

The so-called «Case of 75» involves former SCNS head Kamchybek Tashiev, ex-Prosecutor General Kurmankul Zulushev, former Speaker of Parliament Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu, as well as Bekbolot Talgarbekov, Kursan Asanov, Aaly Karashev, Emilbek Uzakbaev, and Kurmanbek Dyikanbaev.

The defendants are charged with preparing a violent seizure of power, while Tashiev is additionally accused of abuse of office. Since June 15, the trial has been held in open session for the first time.
