This is not Askar Akayev’s first visit to Kyrgyzstan since the events of 2005. He left the country on March 24, 2005, during the March Revolution, and officially resigned on April 3 of that year. In 2021, Akayev visited Kyrgyzstan to testify in the Kumtor case. At that time, the former president addressed the people and asked for forgiveness for the mistakes made during the implementation of the gold mining project.

The anniversary Issyk-Kul Forum is being held in Kyrgyzstan from June 18 to 21. This year, the theme is «The World at a Civilizational Turning Point: Together into the Future.» The forum brought together representatives of international organizations, the scientific community, culture, literature, and government agencies.
