Kuvanychbek Kongantiev was detained on March 11, 2026 by State Committee for National Security (SCNS) officers. Investigators believe he is allegedly involved in organizing illegal schemes involving land plots and the use of affiliated entities. The day before his arrest, Kuvanychbek Kongantiev gave up his parliamentary mandate.

The former deputy spent more than three months in pretrial detention.

Kuvanychbek Kongantiev was elected to the Zhogorku Kenesh in single-mandate constituency No. 21. In parliament, he was a member of El Umutu — Ata-Zhurt group and chaired the committee on industrial policy, transport, fuel and energy complex, architecture, and construction.
