Two Iranian search and rescue vessels were reportedly attacked by the United States in the waters of Hormozgan Province and sustained serious damage, Iranian media reported, citing the Hormozgan Ports and Maritime Administration.
The vessels Naji-15 and Naji-16 were targeted in the attack and suffered significant damage, according to the statement. The agency said the ships were engaged exclusively in humanitarian and rescue missions, adding that the attack demonstrated a disregard for international norms, rules, and obligations.
The Houthis also claimed attacks on tankers in the Red Sea, marking the first such operation since announcing a blockade.
Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthis said they had targeted two Saudi oil tankers. The reported attack came after the Houthis announced a maritime blockade of Saudi Arabia on Monday.
According to an Axios source at the Pentagon, Iran intends to use the Houthis to open a new front in the Red Sea in addition to the Persian Gulf and increase pressure on another key international oil shipping route.

According to the agency, the incident occurred while the vessel was sailing through the Red Sea. The strike caused a fire in the bow section of the tanker. No casualties or injuries were reported.
The confirmation from Riyadh followed a statement by Yahya Saree, spokesman for Yemen’s armed forces, who earlier announced a «large-scale military operation» against Saudi tanker vessels in the Red Sea and the blocking of several commercial shipping routes.

He also said Israel would join the operation «within two minutes» if the U.S. president requested it. However, according to Trump, the United States would not need anyone’s assistance to launch a new operation against Iran.
