According to Kubanych Temirbek uulu, head of the Emergency Response Department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the number of mudflows has significantly increased compared with the same period last year. In the first six months of 2025, around 70 cases were registered — five times fewer than this year’s figure.

The natural disasters damaged 2,484 facilities, including around 180 residential buildings, more than 100 kilometers of roads, 45 bridges, and 55 power transmission line supports. Preliminary material damage is estimated at 399.9 million soms.

The ministry reported that eight people were killed as a result of mudflows, while three others were injured. A total of 236 residents were evacuated from hazardous areas.

Kubanych Temirbek uulu also explained that mudflows are classified into four danger levels depending on water flow volume. The first category includes the most powerful flows with a discharge of more than 1,000 cubic meters per second. The second category covers flows ranging from 100 to 1,000 cubic meters per second, the third — from 10 to 100 cubic metres, and the fourth — less than 10 cubic meters per second.

Most of the mudflows recorded this year belonged to the fourth danger category. Flows of the second category were recorded less frequently.
