The proposed sanctuaries are Zheyren Ordоsu in Ton district of Issyk-Kul region and Kumushtak in Bakai-Ata district of Talas region.

Zheyren Ordosu will cover 16,551 hectares, while Kumushtak will cover 32,521.86 hectares.

Both areas are proposed to receive the status of specially protected natural areas for a period of 25 years. No change in the category of the land is planned.

According to the draft resolution, the sanctuaries are needed to reduce human impact, combat poaching and preserve sustainable populations of wild animals.

In particular, the new protected areas are expected to help conserve goitered gazelles, snow leopards, argali and other wildlife, as well as biodiversity in general.

If the document is adopted, the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision will have six months to develop and approve regulations, protection obligations and passports for the two sanctuaries.

The Ton and Bakai-Ata district state administrations will be responsible for the maintenance and use of the protected areas.
