«Development of Min-Kush Village Through Sustainable Tourism — Revival of Forgotten Towns»

was held in Dzhumgal district of Naryn region.

The event was organized within the framework of the Five Years of Action for the Development of Mountain Regions for 2023–2027 with the support of international partners, government agencies, local authorities, and tourism organizations.

The forum brought together representatives of state institutions, international organizations, the tourism industry, civil society, and residents of settlements connected to uranium heritage sites.

The main topic of discussion was the transformation of Min-Kush into a new tourist destination in Kyrgyzstan and the search for sustainable development pathways for Dzhumgal district.

Participants discussed the region’s natural, historical, cultural, gastronomic, and tourism potential.

Dinara Kemelova, the President’s Special Representative for the Mountain Agenda, stated that Min-Kush is now completely safe for living and visiting.

According to her, the former uranium mining settlement has significant potential for the development of a green economy, agriculture, and tourism.

Special attention at the forum was paid to cooperation between settlements located near uranium heritage sites.

Organizers emphasized that the development of such territories is only possible through coordinated efforts by the state, business sector, international organizations, and local communities.

During the Soviet era, Min-Kush was one of Kyrgyzstan’s uranium mining centers. After the mines were shut down, the settlement fell into decline. In recent years, however, authorities and international partners have been actively discussing its tourism and environmental potential.
