One of the country’s leading Social Democrats’ closest associates was arrested in connection with Koi-Tash events. Farid Niyazov was found guilty and sentenced to seven years and eight months in prison. He was taken into custody in the courtroom.

The Koi-Tash case has been in court since 2022. Additional episodes related to the Bishkek Heating and Power Plant, Dastan plant, and land plots have been added to the case. One of these cases involved former Interior Minister Abdyldy Suranchiev and former Energy Minister Askarbek Shadiev. A total of 20 people were accused, 12 of them in connection with the Koi-Tash events.

Former President Almazbek Atambayev was released by the court in February 2023 for medical treatment. He flew to Spain and has not returned to Kyrgyzstan since.

On August 7, 2019, special forces from the State Committee for National Security attempted to storm Almazbek Atambayev’s residence in Koi-Tash. The following day, joint forces of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the State Committee for National Security conducted another special operation to detain the residence’s owner. Security forces managed to take Almazbek Atambayev out of Koi-Tash. Supporters began throwing stones at security forces and setting tires and trash on fire. Over the two days of clashes, 136 people were injured, and one special forces soldier died from a gunshot wound.

Several criminal cases have been opened against the former head of state, including for the unrest in the village of Koi-Tash on August 7-8, 2019, corruption, and money laundering. He was also charged with illegally issuing passports to Turkish citizens and organizing mass unrest in October 2020, but was acquitted.
