President Sadyr Japarov has signed a decree

«On Urgent Measures for the Development and Promotion of Chess in the Kyrgyz Republic for 2026–2030.»

The document aims to create conditions for the wide popularization of chess among the population and to establish an effective system for training athletes.

Under the decree, the development and promotion of chess are designated as one of the priority areas of the country’s social policy.

The Cabinet of Ministers, together with the Kyrgyz Chess Union, has been instructed to prepare and submit for approval by September 1, 2026, a draft National Program for the Development and Promotion of Chess for 2026–2030.

A Chess Development Fund will also be established under the Kyrgyz Chess Union. The Union is required to develop and submit its charter for approval within two weeks.

One of the key initiatives will be the pilot launch of the Chess in Schools project. Additional chess training through extracurricular clubs is planned for students in grades 3–5 in 500 state and municipal schools across the country.

The Ministry of Education has been tasked with identifying participating schools, developing a standard training curriculum, ensuring teacher preparation, and evaluating the results ten months after the initiative begins.

In addition, special presidential awards have been established — «Best Chess Player of the Year» and «Best Chess Coach of the Year.» Winners will be selected based on nominations from the Kyrgyz Chess Union at the end of each year.
