«On June 3, the UN General Assembly held elections of members of the UN Security Council for 2027-2028. Kyrgyzstan (representing the Asia-Pacific Group), Zimbabwe (representing the African Group), Trinidad and Tobago (representing the Latin American and Caribbean Group), and Austria and Portugal (representing Western European and other countries) were elected to the non-permanent pool.

We particularly highlight Kyrgyzstan’s first-ever election, as well as Zimbabwe’s success. Bishkek’s victory is a significant event, a sign of trust from the global majority, and recognition of its high authority on the global stage,» she said.

Maria Zakharova wished Kyrgyzstan a successful tenure on the UN Security Council.

For the first time in its history, Kyrgyzstan was elected as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. The republic will serve on one of the international organization’s principal organs in 2027-2028.
