According to him, access to liver transplants for children with cirrhosis remains challenging due to insufficient resources and weak infection control. However, the Ministry of Health continues to work to expand capacity.

The ministry acknowledges that the problem of infections remains pressing and requires stronger control.

Bakyt Kadyraliev believes that the actual number of hepatitis patients in the Kyrgyz Republic could reach up to half a million people. However, only 75,000 patients have been registered.

«We must strengthen infection control. This is the only way to effectively prepare children for transplantation,» he said.

In 2024, Alymkadyr Beishenaliev, then Minister of Health, visited a university in Turkey, clinic of which is ranked among the top five institutions for organ transplantation, and promised to establish liver transplants in Kyrgyzstan. Later, a team of specialists from the National Surgical Center was sent to Turkey for a three-month internship, and equipment was purchased.

Sergei Gauthier, one of the world’s leading experts in transplantology, also assisted with the liver transplant surgeries.
