France has recorded its first case of Ebola — in a doctor who returned from Congo. The country’s Ministry of Health announced.

The patient recently arrived from Congo, which, according to the WHO, is experiencing the largest outbreak of the virus in modern history.

The first case of Ebola has been identified in France — a doctor working for a humanitarian organization. The Ministry of Health confirmed the first positive case of the Ebola virus in the country on Wednesday, the ministry said in a statement.

The patient was taken to a specialized facility and is in stable condition, the ministry said.

According to official data, 267 people have died from Ebola in Congo. 1,048 cases of infection have been confirmed, with another 202 being investigated.

Humanitarian organizations previously reported that the virus outbreak in the country could be worse than official figures due to a lack of clean water and sanitation issues in the region.
