According to the Interior Ministry, the drugs were smuggled into the country through international postal shipments.
During a special operation at one of Bishkek’s post offices, two suspects were detained while receiving packages containing narcotics. They were identified as T.B.O., 46, and Ch.N., 37.
Law enforcement officers seized 7.5 kilograms of marijuana from the suspects. Preliminary estimates indicate that the value of the shipment on the black market exceeds $400,000. Investigators said the drugs were allegedly intended to be transported to Kazakhstan.
A criminal case has been opened under Article 282 of the Criminal Code of Kyrgyzstan (illegal production of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, and their analogues for the purpose of sale).
Officers are currently working to identify other individuals involved in the criminal scheme and are checking possible drug trafficking routes, the ministry said.
