The film explores the daily life, traditions and customs of Kyrgyz people living in one of the world’s most remote regions, at an altitude of 4,500 meters.

For the shoot, Efimov’s team traveled to the high-altitude Wakhan Corridor, following the route taken by 19th-century Russian explorer Alexey Putyata. The expedition was an attempt to document the traditional way of life of Afghan Kyrgyz communities, which could change as road infrastructure in the region develops.

This was Efimov’s second overland expedition to Afghanistan. In 2024, he traveled to the country, but the journey had to be cut short after his vehicle broke down. Episodes about that trip garnered more than 5 million views on YouTube and other platforms.

The new expedition was a second attempt to complete the route from St. Petersburg to Afghanistan. As a result, the team produced footage for a full-length documentary titled The Last Wakhan.
