He noted that negotiations are underway to open the checkpoint and build Kerben — Mamai road.
According to him, this initiative opens up great opportunities not only for Aksy district but also for elevating trade, economic, and tourism ties in the border areas of Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan to a new level.
«With the opening of the checkpoint, the local population will have the opportunity to export their goods to the neighboring country, which will also boost tourism development. In particular, an increase in tourist flow to picturesque places such as Padysha-Ata, Sary-Chelek, and Kara-Kamysh is expected. The economic activity of local residents will increase,» Torobaev said.
The Mamai checkpoint on the Kyrgyz-Uzbek border was closed in 2020. Members of the Zhogorku Kenesh (Parliament) have been calling for the reopening of this crossing point for the past several years.
In July 2026, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan agreed to increase the number of checkpoints from 15 to 30.
